Upanayanam Ceremony in Thrissur

Upanayanam Ceremony, also known as Sacred Thread Ceremony or Yajnopaveetam Sanskar, is one of the most important Hindu Samskaras performed mainly among Brahmins, Kshatriyas and Vaishyas. A Brahmin is traditionally known as “Dwija”, meaning “twice born”. Through Upanayanam Samskara, a young boy enters Brahmacharya Ashram and becomes spiritually eligible to study the Vedas and perform sacred rituals. During the ceremony, a sacred thread called Janeu or Yajnopaveetam is placed across the left shoulder of the boy.
